The State government today announced several restrictions and prohibitions to contain the fast spread of the second wave of Covid-19 and cautioned that “harsher steps” would have to be initiated if the situation deteriorates further.

Listing out the restriction imposed today, Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua said the situ-ation would be reviewed in a few days and a call would be taken if more measures were needed to contain the Covid spread

Deputy Commissioners will enforce the restrictions announced today when the number of active Covid-19 patients rises to 100 or more in their districts. As on date, there are 17 districts which have over 100 active cases. According to today’s noti-fication, all market places, su-permarkets, shops in the malls and weeky markets in the affected districts should be closed by 6 pm. At offices, both government and private, barring officers, only 50 per cent employees can work from office. 

However, this will not be applicable for organisations rendering essential and emergency services and election work. Pregnant women employees and wom-en with children of 5 years or below, irrespective of their grade, shall be allowed to work from home. 

Open functions will be allowed with the permission of the district authority subject to strict adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour, including wearing face mask, maintaining respiratory etiquette, practising hand hygiene through frequent hand washing or hand sanitizers and maintaining social distancing. While granting such permission, district authorities will assess the public bearing capacity of the open space and allow gathering of only 50 per cent of its capacity or 400 persons, whichever is lower.

In closed venues, gatherings up to 50 per cent of the seating capacity will be allowed. No standing audience will be allowed in both open and closed venues. Number of guests in private functions at private ven-ues, including marriages, will be restricted to 100 persons. Funeral and last rites-related gatherings should ensure not more than 20 persons.
